The 2009 Vehicle Campaign

L’Arche Greater Vancouver has launched a $180,000 fundraising campaign to replace most of our current vehicles. We are seeking funding for vehicles that are safe, fuel efficient, accessible and have low maintenance needs.

When Jean Vanier opened his home in France to two men from a local institution, he considered how many people should live in one house. His decision was based on how many people could be transported in one vehicle. This meant they could go on outings together.

Why we need vehicles

We continue to follow this guideline at L’Arche Greater Vancouver. Besides the day-to-day appointments and errands, we also plan house holidays, spring break and other community activities together. We haven’t been able to do as much recently because of our lack of reliable transportation. Most of our currently fleet has exceeded their lifespan and need to be retired. They have been well used but are now costing us significant funds in repair and maintenance fees.

Each of our houses and day programs has busy schedules to maintain. People attend events in the community, need transportation to medical appointments, weekly shopping, church services and activities with the larger L’Arche Community.

What we’re looking for:

Vehicles that are:

Safe
Fuel Efficient
Easy access for people with mobility issues
(if used) Low mileage and maintenance

Specifically:

5 New/Gently Used 8 passenger mini vans
2 Gently Used Small Sedans OBTAINED!

Campaign Updates

Two leads gifts have made it possible for Rob Fournier, L’Arche Board Member and CEO of Cornerstone Concepts Auto Finders www.cornerstoneconcepts.ca to locate the first vehicle on our list, a 2008 Toyota Yaris.

We are grateful for the people who made this possible and for Rob’s hard work in finding the right vehicle at the right price.

The Yaris was welcomed to the L’Arche community with a blessing on March 26 at “The Crossing”, one of L’Arche’s six homes.

The Gold Toyota

On April 3 a Toyota Corolla in mint condition with little mileage was given to L’Arche Greater Vancouver by a donor who wishes to remain anonymous. This very generous donation completes our need for sedans!
