I’ve been part of the L’Arche Greater Vancouver community for more than 30 years, serving in a variety of capacities, and have held the role of Community Leader/Executive Director since 2007. I’m responsible for ensuring that L’Arche’s Identity, Mission and Community Mandate are expressed in the daily life of our community.
I’m passionate about the mission of L’Arche, which celebrates the unique value of every person, regardless of age, race, religion or ability. I continue to be inspired by the wonderful people at L’Arche, our vision of building community together, and the hope it brings to a world that so often emphasizes difference.
I came to L’Arche in 1997 and found a place that felt like home. Throughout my L’Arche journey, I’ve served in a number of roles and had the privilege of developing deep and meaningful relationships. I’ve learned a lot about what it means to be in an intentional community and how I can contribute my unique gifts.
I arrived in Canada as an international student with plans to continue my studies in Business Administration. However, in 2005 I started volunteering at L’Arche which resulted in changing my life’s journey completely. I was welcomed into an incredible community that gave me a great sense of belonging. In the following 18 years in this beautiful community, I held various positions that gave me significant leadership experience. As interim Executive Director/Community Leader, I am dedicated to contributing my best to fulfill my responsibilities. I am excited about our new building and the opportunity to lead our community into a brighter future.
I came, I saw, I stayed – actually, I fell in love – with L’Arche in 2005. Inspired by the deep connections and genuine friendships between the people that L’Arche serves and those who support them, I continue to do the important financial work that contributes to improving the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities.
I have been building awareness and raising funds for L’Arche since 2007. The mission of L’Arche, the new opportunities that present themselves, and the people that greet me every day, keep me committed to this community.
For over two decades I have experienced what it means to live and work in three different L’Arche communities here and abroad. It is from the web of my relationships – the humour that we create, the connections we have with others and a shared vision – that I draw my strength.
My first experience with L’Arche began in 1983 until 1989, and started again in 2004. I oversee our home and respite services, which truly makes me feel connected to the people here – that is what keeps me going. I love supporting the people in our homes and being part of the L’Arche community, where all members are valued for who they are and recognized for their unique contribution.
I joined the L’Arche community in 1998 – first as a volunteer in the community inclusion programs, followed by years as a house assistant – and then took on the role of Community Life Coordinator in 2012. Fostering the spiritual life in the community, welcoming guests, and coordinating the different activities that enrich our lives are just a few examples of my multi-faceted role. What I appreciate about being in community is that the learning never ends.
