Become an Assistant
At L’Arche Greater Vancouver, Assistants play a vital role, either living in one of our Supported Living Homes or residing independently while supporting and working alongside members in our L’Arche community. They share daily life with adults with developmental disabilities—offering support, building friendships, and creating a home where everyone belongs.
No two days are the same. Mornings may involve helping members with personal routines. Afternoons may include outings or appointments. Evenings are often filled with shared meals, laughter, and reflection, just like family.

You don’t need specific experience—just a desire to support others, a team spirit, and an openness to community life. Our best Assistants are:

- Committed to one year of living and working in our L’Arche community
- Experience with caregiving or working with individuals with developmental disabilities is an asset
What You’ll Do
- Provide personal and emotional support to individuals with developmental disabilities who are part of the L’Arche community
- Assist with household duties and community participation
- Foster relationships and contribute to a positive, respectful home environment
- Communicate clearly and maintain confidentiality
- Support members in their personal goals and daily life
Qualification and Requirements
- At least 19 years of age
- Proficient in English
- BC Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent
- Physically fit and able to assist with transfers and mobility
- BC Criminal Record Check
- Emergency First Aid and CPR Level C
- Tuberculosis and Immunization Status
- Reference Checks

Become a Casual Support
Casual Support workers fill in for regular Assistants on an “as needed” basis. This flexible position is ideal for those looking to give back to the community and grow personally while balancing other commitments.
Like Assistants, Casual Support workers support our members with their daily routines, participate in outings, help with meals and household tasks, and create spaces for connection and joy. While you may not live in a Supported Living Home, you will still be part of a supportive team that values relationships and respect.
Who Makes a Great Casual Support Worker?
Casual Support workers come from all walks of life. If you are interested in flexible work hours and are available on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, this would be a great fit for you. Experience with caregiving or training as a Personal Support Worker is beneficial, but not mandatory. Our best Casual Support workers are:

- Reliable and flexible with your schedule
- Comfortable supporting individuals with diverse needs
- A team player who communicates well
- Open to personal growth and new experiences
- Experience in caregiving or working with individuals with developmental disabilities is an asset
