Evergreen Program

The Evergreen Centre is a welcoming community where adults with developmental disabilities find friendship, creativity, and purpose. With our support, participants engage in recreational, artistic, and social activities in a caring environment where everyone’s abilities and autonomy are respected.

Benefits to the Community

Our community inclusion program works in partnership with neighbourhood houses, religious organizations, and agencies that serve seniors and people with disabilities.

The activities provided by Evergreen not only benefit the L’Arche community but also the wider community.

Participant's Experience

  • Creative expression through arts and crafts
  • Community service through recycling and Meals on Wheels
  • Fun and fitness through swimming, Zumba, walking, and bowling

  • Personal growth through baking, soap-making, and gardening
  • Connection through Friday lunch programs and coffee meetups

“The program offers a social atmosphere where Claudio can interact with his peers safely and in a positive manner.”

— Sarah

“My daughter has attended the day program since 2022. She likes the activities. It is so good that she engages in different activities and events with the other participants. We are happy to hear her talk about her day. We feel content and reassured that she has a place where she can learn new skills and use the ones she knows and that she is safe.”

Neighbours Helping Neighbours Program

Neighbours Helping Neighbours (NHN) is an outreach program where adults with developmental disabilities, supported by their program leader, provide valuable outdoor services to seniors and people with physical disabilities. Equipped with their own vehicle and tools, the NHN team brings practical help—and a lot of smiles—to the people they serve in the Burnaby area.

Benefits to the Community

NHN delivers hundreds of hours of essential services each year, helping neighbours stay safe, and independent.

“My husband and I saw the NHN truck with the information we were looking for and phoned them. And for the past 10 years, they have cut our lawn, trimmed and clipped the extra branches. They are very good and kind and do a fantastic job. They are so friendly and caring.”
– Noella

For more information on how you can access the services of the NHN Program, please contact us.

NHN Services Include

  • Light yard work and lawn care
  • Leaf and snow removal
  • Outdoor debris cleanup and removal
  • Simple carpentry and household tasks
  • Gardening and recycling

“They’ve been doing my lawn for the past 3 years, and they are fantastic! They are good workers and are so grateful when I give them something. I have been using their service since my husband and son died. I am also telling my neighbours about them. They are God-sent”
